Do you have unused goods and don't want them to end up in the trash? Why not make an event out of it?
We all have goods to declutter. Turn these unwanted items into additional cash by hosting a yard sale in your community!
A community garage sale has been a trend in most neighborhoods. This is an event hosted by several homeowners on a single day. Many people say it's faster to sell this way than putting them online. In this blog, we'll help you with some tips to organize a community garage sale.
Pick a date and location - Choose Saturday, but make sure it will not fall on a Holiday. If you want to make the most out of it, do a two-day yard sale.
Start on a Friday until Saturday, double the number of customers and double the income. Pick a location that is easy to find, has a huge parking area, and provides enough space for the items you are selling.
Obtain a permit - Make sure you check with your city office if a permit is needed. You don’t want to find out on the day of your event that your city has strict rules about yard sales.
Promote your event - Create a Facebook page for your event. Put in the location, date, and time. Post some of your best sale items to attract people. Spread the word to the entire community, you can make flyers and signages. Place ads in local Facebook selling groups or Craigslist.
Get your price right - Pricing is important. You may get a lot of people to come and visit your yard sale, but only a few will buy if your price is too high. Check the value of an item online if you aren't sure of the pricing.
Preparation - Get your items ready - make sure they are clean and still presentable. Provide enough tables to put all your for sale items. Put some balloons in your location and direction signs along the road if your city will allow it.
Be open to bargaining, but keep in mind a number you could still earn something from. Prepare to have some change available for larger bills. A community yard sale can be overwhelming. But if you stick with these steps, you can have a successful outcome.
